A Miserable Christmas 2010,

And a happier year next year!
The chestnuts are roasting, the presents all bought,
But you're still filled with stress and fear!

Your bank account was long ago empty,
And your future is not at all clear;
As usual you're spending Christmas,
With people you’d rather were nowhere near!

Either that or you’re all alone,
Crying into your umpteenth beer;
Everyone is with their kids and kin,
You feel gutted at this time of year!

Whatever, you’re likely in loads of debt,
From buying lots of crap;
It’s just for Christmas, not for life,
But you're still in a right old flap!

And now you’re preparing to stuff your face,
With a banquet fit for a king,
Then get completely peshed*,
And not remember a single thing!

You’ve lived an unhealthy year,
You’ve still not fulfilled your dreams,
You know what you want to do,
But you still haven’t got the means!

At least on New Year’s Day,
You can resolve to change your ways;
‘Though this isn’t likely to last,
Any more than a few short days!

This all might sound pessimistic,
But it isn’t meant to be,
For your real Christmas gift is the present,
All year, it’s now, it’s here, it’s free!
