This poem’s to celebrate Nanna’s life,

‘Cause she means so much to me,
What an amazing lady,
She lived to 103!

Born into railway folk,
County Durham 1913,
She enjoyed a happy childhood,
Moved to Leeds aged 14.

Got herself a job in queen’s arcade,
Worked in a jeweller's there,
Attracted loads of customers,
Herself a jewel so rare!

She joined a rambling club,
Then, at the New Year’s dance,
Met fine Leeds lad Ron,
They started an epic romance!

In Richmond Hill in ‘41,
At the Methodist Chapel there,
They finally tied the knot,
Must have been dancing on air!

She waited for him all through the war,
Worked at the co-op throughout,
At last they were reunited,
Happy times no doubt!

They certainly didn’t mess about,
Marjorie born by December,
10 months later Liz arrived,
A wondrous year to remember!

After the kids had started school
In Boots down Briggate she worked,
Much-loved by the community,
And all at the Methodist Church!

Nanna and Granddad had a great life,
Together enjoyed lots of rambling,
Always kept fit, had lots of fun,
Went all over sequence dancing!

Sadly Granddad passed away,
Nanna lived 30 more years,
She stayed here for all us lot,
Through all our joys and our tears!

Nanna loved baking bread and cakes,
Was a good job she did do,
As she had 7 grandkids in the end,
14 Great Grandkids too!

Baked us Christmas cakes every year,
Loved all her family,
Ballroom-danced ‘til 92 years,
When she got a replacement knee!

I enjoyed fish and chips with Nanna,
Every Friday for years,
Loved all her stories and good advice,
Told her my hopes and my fears!

All the family are thankful,
For her honesty love and care,
She gave more than second chances,
And she was always there!

She battled through right to the end,
Strongest battler ever,
At last God finally wants her,
She’s with Granddad again forever!

She means the world to us all,
We will truly miss her love,
But we’re happy she’s with Granddad,
And will now be our angel above! xxx
